Permission to just be
Many of us live under quiet rules we’ve carried for years:
I should be stronger.
I should have figured this out by now.
I shouldn’t need help.
These rules can make us feel small, like we are never quite enough.
In person-centred therapy, there is a deep belief that you are already whole — not perfect, not finished, but worthy as you are in this moment. Sometimes, all that’s needed is permission to let that truth breathe.
What happens when you remind yourself:
“I am allowed to be exactly as I am today.”
“I am allowed to feel unsure.”
“I am allowed to take up space in the world.”
These words are not magic, but they are gentle. They soften the grip of the “shoulds” and invite you to meet yourself with more compassion.
This week, if you notice yourself being hard on yourself, try pausing and offering one quiet reminder: “I am allowed.” Notice what shifts, even if only a little.
